A magic journey you would want to take with Ritu Kumar to the world of loom and needle

Ritu Kumar’s own textile journey is a voyage of discovery of both India’s fabulous wealth in the areas of textiles and handicrafts and of her own immense talent in putting that wealth in the forefront of the national and global fashion map! Who amongst us would not like to wear own and celebrate these stunning fabrics and hand crafted designs? And when Padma Shree Ritu Kumar works her own magic with them, we simply cannot but succumb to the spell of the loom and the needle!

An exhibition by Ritu now on at the Visual Arts Gallery brings alive journeys that have involved deep research and reflection on the textile arts of various regions and their unique histories via a display of archival textiles, vintage photographs, collages and paintings.

Forming both professional memoirs and artistic musings, Crossroads: Textile Journeys with Ritu Kumar is a personal perspective on dynamic handcrafted traditions at the crossroads of change. It is an intimate experience which will help the viewers see the diversity of these textile regions through diary entries and visual memorabilia.

The occasion will also mark the release of the first in the series of publications, on Uzkebistan.

The exhibition will run till 5th of April at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
